The Laboratory of Thermal Sciences (LATERMO) is a research and teaching laboratory focused on heat and mass transfer and thermal engineering. The academic-scientific activities developed at LATERMO have a more experimental character, but theoretical studies and computer simulations are also carried out. The main research projects currently carried out at LATERMO are associated with the characterization and development of new materials. The thermophysical and heat transfer properties of composite materials and polymers are studied, with the aim of developing new materials with properties designed to meet specific demands. It also has projects related to the manufacture and characterization of Biodiesel and studies related to Biomass. LATERMO has the equipment necessary to carry out these activities, including a Thermal Conductivity Meter (LaserComp FOX 50-110), a DSC Netzsch 200 F3 MAIA Differential Scanning Calorimeter, a Shimadzu High Precision Scale (AW220 ) with a Density Determination Kit (SMK 401), a 750 W Cole Parmer Ultrasonic Processor, a Planetary Ball Mill (RETSCH PM-100) with different materials, several furnaces with temperature and vacuum control, among other equipment.
