The Stress Analysis Laboratory (LAT) studies the behavior of residual stresses resulting from different metallurgical and mechanical manufacturing processes in carbon steels and in newly developed high-alloy steels, such as duplex and superduplex stainless steels; and in nickel and aluminum alloys.
The LAT is equipped with modern portable X-ray diffraction tensometry equipment, which has the advantage of being used both in the laboratory, to measure stress in small samples, and on-site, being able to evaluate the residual stress in pipes and large equipment that are in service.
The LAT is a multi-user laboratory and it is part of the Rede Temática de Materiais e Corrosão (TMEC/Petrobras). It also collaborates with researchers from other institutions and industry.
