The Laboratory of Pipelines Tests is linked to the Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Laboratory (LMTA) and was created in 2005, with the assistance of PETROBRAS for hydrostatic tests in pipelines and traditional mechanical tests. The main objective is the analysis of systems for repairing pipelines made of polymeric composite materials. The laboratory is about 80 square meters and it houses a special unit for hydrostatic tests on piping systems with a maximum pressure of 15000 psi (1034 bar) and a control system for complex measurements of pressure and temperature. It also has a universal testing machine with a capacity of 10 tons and a thermostatic chamber from -70ºC to 350ºC for performing mechanical tests (traction, bending, compression, fracture).
