Founded in 1960, the Fluminense Federal University (UFF) is a public institution, part of the Brazilian federal higher education system. Its headquarters are located in the city of Niterói and its campuses can be found in various parts of the state of Rio de Janeiro. It is also one of the largest federal universities in Brazil with respect to number of students enrolled and has nationally and internationally been ranked among the best Brazilian universities.
The Praia Vermelha campus, where the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Program is located, is situated on the shores of Guanabara Bay and its buildings are spacious and comfortable. The University also has multiple libraries, a bank branch, restaurants, cinema, theater, as well as a orchestra.
The structure of PGMEC is made up of several research laboratories and it also has excellent facilities for students, such as a study room at their disposal, with free access to the Internet, while full-time students also have private desks and lockers.
